Let Go

It was a beautiful summer day, mid 70’s and sunny. I was supposed to have the day off and was looking forward to enjoying the day, beachside. And then disaster struck. I won’t get into the nitty gritty, but my life instantly turned into chaos. I remember thinking why, why isn’t my life working? I had done all of the right things!

In this moment, I received a very clear no in my life, and it was devastating. This wasn’t the typical no, I had a bad day. This was the kind of no that threw my entire worldview into question! It was in this moment that I knew the pain I was feeling would lead to another pivotal moment in my life. The pain was so intense that I knew it would be more painful to stay in this space, than it would be to make a change. Once this realization took hold, my life slowly began to transform from a mediocre existence into an abundantly fuller life.

This shift in mindset wasn’t easy, but it was incredibly simple! Notice the difference in wording in the last sentence. This transformation is without a doubt the hardest thing I have ever done in life. However, once I came to the realization that I deeply desired to change my life, and it was no longer just an option, the decision was simple. I had to move forward!

In my first in person session with my coach, she kept saying “let go.” And I couldn’t believe how difficult this was for me! To let go of something can be incredibly complex. To quote my therapist “it might be shit, but at least it’s shit I know.” It wasn’t until I decided to let go that I began to experience what I needed.

There’s going to come a point in time where it’s more painful to stay where you are than it is to make the change. If you're ready to make that change I encourage you to find your community that will help you let go of what is, so that you can experience what could be. For me this included medical professionals, a therapist, a few good friends, and a professional coach. Humans are meant to be in community, and let’s be real, no one is able to traverse a substantial change like this without the proper support.

As we traverse pivotal moments in life there becomes a juncture where one has an opportunity to become fearless as they move forward. The people who choose to live an extraordinary life simply understand that it takes courage and initiative to live the life of your dreams. The life you want to live is entirely possible!
